Last year the Northern Irish Assembly voted to approve marriage equality 53-51 but the Democratic United Party overrode the vote to block equality for a fifth time and veto same-sex marriage legislation. Last week the Isle of Man voted to approve marriage equality, leaving Northern Ireland as the only part of the UK that does not have same-sex marriage, despite recent polls by Amnesty International which suggest 68 per cent of people in Northern Ireland are in favour of the reform. .
